Donald Trump is making a grab for the resources of other sovereign nations under the guise of protecting democracy in the western hemisphere. The U.S. military incursion into Venezuela and abduction of their president was illegal and nothing more than a grab for the oil reserves of that country.
Whatever Maduro’s crimes are, they need to be dealt with by the Venezuelan people under International law. Sending Maduro to the Hague to face trial could give some valid direction and closure to the U.S. government’s illegal interference in Venezuela’s affairs.
Recent threats to Greenland and Denmark’s sovereignty clarify the real goals of the U.S. government’s actions. They are seeking to impose their dominion over the western hemisphere and taking control of all resources within that geological sector. They use the concept of Manifest Destiny to justify their actions against other sovereign nations. In reality, their actions remove their right to claim they are leaders of the democratic, free world. They no longer have that right.
Every country that has abundant resources needs to feel concerned that their sovereignty will be threatened by the U.S., and this includes Canada. Rather than cleaning up the mess they have made of their own country, environmentally, they are making an ultimate grab for the natural resources of neighbouring nations.
It is sad to feel the need to hope that non-traditional allies like China, along with our NATO friends, will be willing to step in to protect Canada’s sovereignty not if, but when, the need arises.
Who is responsible for this debacle of democracy that is occurring in front of our eyes? Donald Trump, obviously, but ultimately the citizens of the United States, who unleashed this megalomaniac on the world, not once, but twice.
It is time to stop the actions of this danger to world peace, beginning with an appropriate response from the citizens of the United States. They need to take whatever political actions are necessary to end this now.
