Ross MacDonald Memorial Legacy Fund established
Some people don’t just love nature—they change it for the better.
Today, we’re honoured to share the creation of the Ross MacDonald Memorial Legacy Fund—a lasting tribute to a man whose passion for conservation helped shape the very heart of Wings over the Rockies.
Ross wasn’t just a leader with Parks Canada or a past Wings over the Rockies Nature Festival President… he was a mentor, a champion, and a true force of nature in the Columbia Valley.
The Wings over the Rockies Nature Festival Society board created this Legacy Fund in Ross’s memory—and as a heartfelt thank-you to the many dedicated supporters who have shaped the festival over the years.
It is our hope that this fund will create a lasting legacy—providing ongoing support to projects that protect and sustain the beautiful natural environment of the Valley we all love.
Now, his legacy continues—supporting the work he cared about most:
- Inspiring environmental education;
- Restoring and protecting vital habitats;
- Supporting species at risk;
- Strengthening conservation efforts across our region.
Administered by the @columbiavalleycommunityfdtn, this fund ensures that Ross’s impact will be felt for generations to come.

Lake Windermere Ambassadors – Monitoring & Education Project
This important initiative continues long-term monitoring of water quality and quantity on Lake Windermere—tracking environmental changes and supporting sustainable lake management.
With growing pressures from recreation, climate impacts, and ecosystem changes, this work matters more than ever. By involving local volunteers and youth, the project builds scientific understanding, stewardship, and a shared commitment to protecting our lake.
If you knew Ross, you knew this too—he came alive behind the lens, capturing the beauty he worked so hard to protect. That spirit now lives on in every project this fund supports.
