Sparwood Lions giving away Child ID Kits April 15
The Sparwood Lions Club will be giving away Lions Quest Child ID Kits at Showcase Sparwood, April 15, from 5-7 p.m.
We encourage all parents and guardians to come by for some, and treat the kids to some popcorn and cotton candy (by donation).
Filling out a child ID kit provides a comprehensive records package that parents keep on hand but can instantly be handed to law enforcement if your child goes missing, drastically speeding up search efforts.
Key reasons to fill out a kit
Faster Amber Alerts: Having up-to-date photos and physical descriptors ready can reduce the time it takes to issue an Amber Alert from eight hours to just two.
Bypasses Parent Panic: During a crisis, roughly 34% of parents cannot accurately recall their child’s exact height, weight, or eye color. A kit ensures these facts are documented accurately beforehand.
Provides Forensic Data: Kits often store “gold standard” identifiers that parents might not otherwise have, such as fingerprints, dental records, and DNA samples (like a hair follicle or licked seal).
Aid in Crowded Areas: If a child is separated in a mall or park, a kit provided to security helps staff identify the child even if they are too panicked to communicate.
Assists Non-Verbal Children: For children with disabilities or those on the autism spectrum who may find it difficult to interact with strangers, an ID kit acts as a vital communication tool for first responders.
Traveling and Medical Emergencies: Kits often include emergency contact info, blood type, and medical history (allergies, medications), which can be life-saving for unaccompanied minors or during accidental injuries.
