Obituary of Susan “Beth” Bennett

Susan “Beth” Bennett

Susan Beth Bennett (née Anderson), known to most as Beth, passed away peacefully on April 5, 2026, in Cranbrook, British Columbia, at the age of 69. Born on April 17, 1956, in Campbellford, Ontario, Beth lived a life defined by quiet strength, joy of living, and enduring love for her family, friends, and community.

Beth passed on Easter Sunday, surrounded by her family, after many years of courageously battling cancer. Through it all, her strong faith and love for life sustained her and brought comfort and resilience.

Beth was a loving and devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She is survived by her husband, Bill Bennett; her sons Dylan and Dan Bennett; her daughter-in-law Francisca Venegas; and her cherished grandchildren, Isabella and Oliver. She is also survived by her brothers, Scott and Jeff Anderson, and her sister-in-law, Paula Anderson. Beth was predeceased by her parents, Lloyd and Leafa Anderson.

Beth will be remembered as someone who never made an enemy in her life. She was deeply loved, and is loved, by many friends and family who admired her kindness, humility, and steady presence. As a proud Rotarian, Beth offered her wisdom quietly, but it was always thoughtful and grounded.

Beth had a gift for making people feel cared for, and nowhere was that more evident than in her kitchen. She was an exceptional cook—someone who easily could have pursued a career as a chef—but chose instead to keep cooking as an expression of love. Sharing meals was her way of bringing people together, and those who sat at her table felt that warmth in every dish.

She found joy in life’s simple and beautiful things. Beth loved music, flowers, and gardening, and took great pleasure in creating spaces that were welcoming and full of life. She had a wonderful sense of style and a love of art and fashion, enjoyed entertaining friends and family, and embraced every opportunity to travel and experience new places. Above all, she loved to laugh, and her unassuming warmth and joy made those around her feel at ease.

Beth lived a full and varied life. Alongside her husband Bill, she ran a fly-in fishing resort on the northern border of Manitoba, opened and operated a clothing store, and later applied her excellent attention to detail and strength with numbers to running her own bookkeeping business. She was also an active participant in community life through clubs such as the Cranbrook Gardening Club and non-profit organizations including the East Kootenay Foundation for Health, where she dedicated many years of service reflecting her deep care for others and her community.

A memorial service will be held at the Alliance Church on May 3, 2026, at 3:00 p.m., followed by a reception at the Prestige Mountain Resort from 4:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. The memorial service can be streamed live using the following link: https://www.hdezwebcast.com/show/susan-bennett-service

In lieu of flowers, Beth requested that donations be made to the East Kootenay Foundation for Health.

She will be deeply missed and forever remembered in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.
