CFES respond to structure fire Monday evening
Cranbrook Fire and Emergency Services (CFES) responded to multiple 911 calls on Monday night (April 27) reporting a fully involved structure fire just after 6 p.m. on the 300 block of 7th Avenue South in Cranbrook.
The on-duty shift responded with five members and two fire engines. Upon arrival, crews found a single-family residence fully involved in flames on a busy street in a high traffic neighbourhood. Additional firefighters were paged from home and responded to assist with fire suppression and scene operations.
Firefighters were challenged by aggressive fire conditions throughout the property, during a very busy time of day with significant vehicle and pedestrian traffic in the area.
Crews worked efficiently and safely to bring the fire under control and successfully extinguish it. The fire department was supported by members of the RCMP, who were challenged with the volume of onlookers. In addition, the BC Ambulance Service assisted with our safety throughout the operation, and we are thankful for the continued support of our partner agencies.
There were no reported injuries to occupants, pets, or firefighters as a result of the incident. Cranbrook Fire & Emergency Services is thankful that no one was injured; however, the incident has resulted in significant losses for the homeowners.
“This is a very difficult and emotional time for the homeowners and their family,” said Fire Chief Scott Driver. “On behalf of the Cranbrook Fire Department, I would like to extend our sincere condolences to those affected by this fire as they begin the process of recovery.”
Fire investigation activities are continuing today, and the cause of the fire has not been determined at this time.
