The District of Elkford is pleased to announce that Dr. Dave Aneca has been named the 2026 Citizen of the Year.

Dr. Aneca was recognized by Mayor Steve Fairbairn and council during the regular council meeting on April 27, 2026. The annual award recognizes individuals who have made meaningful contributions to the community through volunteerism, leadership and service.

Dave’s volunteerism in Elkford spans many years and includes involvement with several local organizations, including the Elkford Trails Alliance, Wapiti Ski Club, Elkford Snowmobile Club and Elk Valley Minor Hockey. He is also a regular contributor to community events such as Wildcat Days and Winter in the Wild.

He is well known in the community for organizing fundraising bingos and for bringing his foam fun gun to local parades and events. He has also supported the community through sponsorships and donations that benefit a wide range of local initiatives.

Dave’s love for Elkford is also evident in his willingness to step in and help wherever needed. In addition to his visible efforts, he has quietly supported community members through charitable work. His generosity reflects a deep sense of compassion and a commitment to the well-being of others.

Mayor Fairbairn, on behalf of council, extended sincere congratulations and appreciation to Dr. Aneca, noting that his efforts exemplify the spirit of Elkford’s Citizen of the Year award.
