Junior Firefighter Program graduates celebrated

The Regional District of East Kootenay (RDEK) is proud to congratulate the 2026 graduates of the RDEK Fire Services Junior Firefighter Program.

The 10-week program gives high school students aged 16 to 18 an opportunity to experience the role of a professional firefighter while participating in rigorous training, helping maintain the operational readiness of fire halls and equipment, and developing strong teamwork skills and lasting connections.

The program is a joint initiative between RDEK Elk Valley & South Country Fire and Rescue Services and Fernie Fire Rescue and is sponsored in part by Brogan Fire & Safety.

“The Junior Firefighter Program gives young people an incredible opportunity to gain hands-on experience, build confidence, and develop a strong sense of teamwork and responsibility,” said Acting Chief Ben Goertzen.

“We are proud of this year’s graduates for their commitment, hard work, and willingness to take on the challenges of the program.”

The RDEK extends its congratulations to all 2026 graduates and thanks the fire service partners and sponsors who helped make the program possible.
