Cranbrook Rotary builds on history of supporting seniors

The Rotary Club of Cranbrook is set to launch one of its most significant community projects – Rotary Creekside Village – a new 12 home below market rental housing complex purpose built for local seniors, something that is one of the most pressing of housing needs in Cranbrook.

The Rotary Club of Cranbrook has a long history of supporting seniors, starting with the building of the Rotary Scott Villa in 1967 – Rotary’s first build of this kind locally.

The new Rotary Creekside Village will be constructed with 12 one-bedroom suites to be available for those senior residents who need support.

Projects like the Rotary Scott Villa and the new Rotary Creekside Village create a lasting, meaningful impact on residents, both past and present and fill an important community need.

“It’s independence, it’s my home, it’s a community. It’s very affordable living; I wouldn’t be able to manage if I didn’t have the affordable living at the Rotary Scott Villa,” said Roxy, a resident.

“He wanted to stay home (in Cranbrook) where he has always been. He was very happy here, he had his animals, the deer, and the ducks he fed. He made a lot of friends and I am very thankful,” added Tammy, a daughter of a past resident of Rotary Scott Villa.

Both the Rotary Club and the City of Cranbrook see the creation of Rotary Creekside Village as an important addition to the local housing market because of ever increasing housing costs outpacing the retirement income of many seniors, making it difficult for many to find a place to live that is affordable.

As the population ages and housing costs continue to rise, many seniors find themselves without safe, affordable options to call home.

Rotary Creekside Village has been designed from the ground up to fill that gap — providing quality, dignified housing for those who have given so much to our community.

“This is a significant moment for Cranbrook. Rotary Creekside Village represents our club’s deep commitment to serving our community — and to ensuring that our seniors can age with dignity, comfort, and security right here in the city they love,” said David Kaiser, Project Director, Rotary Club of Cranbrook.

“We are deeply grateful to the City of Cranbrook for their extraordinary support and generosity. Their partnership has turned an ambitious vision into a real and shovel-ready project.”

“Affordable housing is the most difficult part of the housing spectrum to meet,” said Mayor Wayne Price.

“This Rotary Club project helps meet the needs of local seniors in securing affordable, secure housing. The City of Cranbrook is proud to be working with the Rotary Club of Cranbrook on this initiative and grateful for their ongoing contributions to our community.”

The Rotary Club of Cranbrook continues to work on funding the project. The club has been successful in securing about $300,000 in grants for site servicing and construction work, and nearly $260,000 in club funds, including nearly $100,000 raised through Rotary’s recent gala event, with a second gala tentatively planned for 2027.

Columbia Basin Trust is contributing $700,000 to support the Rotary Creekside Village project, helping to increase access to affordable seniors housing in Cranbrook.

“Access to safe, affordable housing is foundational to community well-being, especially for seniors. Rotary Creekside Village reflects what’s possible when local leadership, strong partnerships, and a clear community need come together,” said Will Nixon, Director, Delivery of Benefits with Columbia Basin Trust. “We’re proud to support a project that will help Cranbrook seniors remain connected, secure and at home in their community.”

To help fund the construction of Rotary Creekside Village, the Rotary Club of Cranbrook has launched an ambitious Capital Gift Campaign — and the response from donors and community supporters has been outstanding. The campaign is progressing with tremendous momentum, reflecting just how deeply Cranbrook residents believe in this project and in the seniors it will serve.

The Rotary Club of Cranbrook invites individuals, businesses, and organizations to join them in making Rotary Creekside Village a reality. Every contribution — large or small — brings this vital project one step closer to completion.

Private individual donations will receive a CRA tax receipt. Visit cranbrookrotary.org for more information.

Services and site preparation work is on track to begin in June 2026, with construction to start in mid-July. Construction is expected to take around 12 months, with Rotary aiming for residents being able to start moving in by end of July 2027.

Applications for Rotary Creekside Village will open starting on February 26, 2027. For those interested in applying can apply to [email protected].
