30th annual Border Walk June 21
The 30th annual Border Walk and National Indigenous Peoples Day Celebration is taking place June 21.
ʔakanuxunik’ʔ (the people) of Yaq̓it ʔa·knuqⱡi’i First Nation, alongside relatives and friends from our sister governments including ʔakisq̓nuk (Columbia Lake First Nation), ʔaq̓am (St. Mary’s Indian Band), Yaqan nuʔkiy (Lower Kootenay Indian Band), Ksanka Band (Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribes of Montana), and the ʔaq̓anqmi (Kootenai Tribe of Idaho), will gather in solidarity to participate in this annual walk.
Participants will gather at approximately 10 a.m. on Sunday, June 21, at the Roosville Border Crossing.
Following completion of the Border Walk, all attendees are invited to return to Administration (5500 Village Loop Road, Grasmere) to share a meal, experience cultural celebration, and join in commemorating National Indigenous Peoples Day.
This gathering provides an opportunity for our Nations to come together in reflection and unity, honouring a time when our peoples moved freely across these lands without recognition of imposed international borders.
Since time immemorial, we have lived upon, travelled through, and stewarded these territories.
This event also serves as a continued affirmation that we have never relinquished our Aboriginal Rights and Title to our Lands.
