Obituary of Renee Rosalind Louise Carr
Renee Rosalind Louise Carr (Thomson)
Renee Rosalind Louise Carr (Thomson) devoted wife, much adored mother, cherished grand-mother, doting great-grandmother, and “NANNY” to all.
On a sunny and peaceful afternoon, Tuesday, June 23, Renee gently passed into the arms of her Lord and Saviour while at home with family.
Renee was born in Rocky Mountain House, Alberta, on Nov 28, 1931. She had a happy childhood (despite being raised during the Great Depression), but life became more difficult when she was orphaned during her mid-teens alongside both of her younger siblings. In true Renee fashion, she worked hard to gain custody and take care of them as a teenager.
At 21, she married Gerry Carr in Innisfail, Alberta, and they lovingly raised her siblings, Francis and Michael, as their own. In 1954, the newly formed family moved to Cranbrook where Gerry was a builder by day and a movie projectionist by night, while Renee raised her siblings and worked at the Royal Bank. In 1962, Renee and Gerry welcomed Deborah into the world, followed by Melody two years later, though they only had her for a few short days before she went to be with the Lord. In 1969, Ian was born and their family was complete.
Renee was a full-time bookkeeper for Gerry’s construction company, homemaker for her family, and counselor/Jill-of-all-trades for the many people who seemed magnetically attracted to her. From Pioneer Girls Club to home bible studies, meals on wheels, Christian Woman’s Club, and many other service callings, Renee filled her days with love for others, devotion to her Lord, and dedication to her family.
She was a long-time member of the Cranbrook Alliance Church, and her love for Christ, family, and all people was clear to everyone she met. She was selfless and generous beyond measure.
When Gerry passed in 2013 after 59 years of marriage, Renee continued to share her love and zest for life with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She had a great sense of humour and she was always up for an adventure. Heaven help you if you were on the receiving end of one of her pranks!
She leaves behind daughter Deborah (Bill) Boswell, son Ian (Tammy) Carr, grandchildren Brittani (Shaun) Sarton, Keaton Boswell, Tyler Carr, Jacob (Randy) Carr, Tavin Boswell, great-grandchildren, Malakai Sarton, Chloe Sarton, and Wren Carr, as well as many more treasured family and friends.
Renee was predeceased by her parents Beatrice and Mike Thomson, loving husband Gerry, daughter Melody, sister Francis, brother Michael, and brother Ed.
Renee’s Celebration of Life will be at 2:30 pm on Sunday, July 5, 2026, at the Alliance Church in Cranbrook, British Columbia. The service will be livestreamed for those unable to attend in person. Click the following link to view: https://www.hdezwebcast.com/show/renee-carr-service
