Fire ban lifted in KNP except for Redstreak
Parks Canada announced this morning the fire ban in Kootenay National Park (KNP) will be lifted today, August 28, at 12 p.m., but will remain in effect for Redstreak Campground.
Recent precipitation, cooler temperatures, and forecasted weather conditions have lowered wildfire risk, allowing this ban to be lifted in most of the park.
The fire ban at Redstreak Campground remains in effect until further notice.
Please remember that even when a fire ban is lifted, Kootenay National Park remains under a year-round fire restriction.
Campfires are only allowed in the metal fire rings or boxes provided by Parks Canada.
Campfires must be attended to at all times.
Completely extinguish your campfire with water. Soak it, stir it, and soak it again until it is cool to the touch before leaving it.
Fires made within rock rings are prohibited, year-round within national parks.
Campfires are prohibited in all backcountry campgrounds in Kootenay National Park.
Do not throw cigarettes on the ground. Put them out and discard them in a bin.
