Golden retrievers to take over Golden
Golden is about to live up to its name in a whole new way.
On September 26, Golden Tails Gathering will welcome Golden Retrievers and their humans from across Western Canada for a one-of-a-kind event celebrating dogs, community, mountain adventure, and a shared love for one of Canada’s most beloved breeds.
Billed as Western Canada’s Biggest Golden Retriever Meetup, the first-year event will bring together Golden Retriever families for a full day of activities, contests, photo opportunities, vendors, food trucks, socializing, and the event’s signature group photo, The Big Sit.
The event will take place in Golden, creating a destination-style experience for attendees travelling from communities throughout British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, and beyond.
“Golden Retrievers have such a joyful, social, people-loving personality, and Golden, BC is the perfect setting to bring that energy together,” said Andrea Tubbs, organizer of Golden Tails Gathering.
“We wanted to create an event that feels fun, welcoming, and meaningful — a place where people can spend the day surrounded by happy dogs, beautiful mountain views, and a community that genuinely loves being together.”
Golden Tails Gathering is designed as an on-leash, dog-friendly event for Golden Retrievers, their families, and dog lovers of all kinds. Planned features include a Vendor Village, food trucks, professional photo opportunities, themed activity areas, social spaces, dog-focused contests, and gathering moments created especially for photos and shared memories.
One of the most anticipated highlights will be The Big Sit, a large-scale group photo that will bring together attending Goldens and their humans in one memorable image.
In addition to celebrating Goldens, the event has a charitable purpose. Proceeds from Golden Tails Gathering will be shared with three non-profit rescue organizations in Canada, helping support dogs in need.
“For us, the rescue component is an important part of the event,” said Tubbs. “This is a joyful day, but it is also an opportunity to give back and support organizations doing important work for dogs across Canada.”
Organizers expect the inaugural event to attract 100 to 200 Golden Retrievers and approximately 200 to 400 attendees, with the potential to grow in future years as the event gains momentum among Golden Retriever owners, pet businesses, rescue organizations, and dog-loving travellers.
The event is also expected to bring visitors into Golden during the fall season, supporting local tourism, accommodations, restaurants, retailers, and service businesses.
Golden Tails Gathering is open to registered attendees, including those attending with Golden Retrievers as well as dog lovers who simply want to take part in the fun. Dogs of any kind and their owners are also welcome to attend this one-day dog festival.
Families, couples, friend groups, photographers, content creators, and anyone who enjoys dogs and community events are encouraged to attend.
