MLA McInnis urges action on dangerous TransCanada

Columbia River-Revelstoke MLA Scott McInnis reported Sept. 4 he has forwarded a letter to Mike Farnworth, Minister of Transportation and Transit, requesting an urgent meeting to discuss the pressing safety concerns on Highway 1 between Field and Sicamous.

“The recent tragic events on this corridor requires immediate attention and solutions, in addition to longer-term safety measures,” McInnis noted on social media.

“I’ve heard loud and clear from many constituents that they are downright fearful of driving on this stretch of highway-one of Canada’s most dangerous.

“Thank you to several constituents who have proposed sensible and thoughtful ideas to increase safety on the highway.”

McInnis’ letter (see below) received swift response.

He reported August 5 a meeting is set for September 23.

“I will share the discussion briefing with everyone.  Ultimately, I feel this will have to be an all-community citizen initiative to make necessary changes,” he said.
