Four Electoral Areas decided by acclamation
The upcoming Oct. 17 election in Regional District of East Kootenay (RDEK) will only feature two campaigns for office, with representation for four electoral areas decided via acclamation.
Voters in Electoral Area E and F head to the polls to select either Nowell Berg or Penny Flegel, both residents of Wasa, and either incumbent Susan Clovechok of Fairmont Hot Springs or Quentin Randall of Windermere.

Two new faces will be heading to the November 2026 RDEK Board meeting, with Electoral Area B being represented by Jaffray resident Krista Damstrom, who replaces Stan Doehle who did not seek re-election and Electoral Area C being represented by Samantha Walsh, who replaces long-time director and board chair Rob Gay, who also did not seek re-election.
Gay represented Area C for 20 years, including 15 years as chair.
The turnover of directors on the RDEK Board might rank among the most ever in this election.
However, two incumbent directors are returning via acclamation, including Area A Director Thomas McDonald and Area G Director Roberta Schnider.
