Local author releasing book Oct. 13 to encourage mothers
Mothers are struggling, feeling isolated and alone. Many mamas are carrying many challenges for their kids – mental health struggles, behavioural issues, medical diagnoses, addiction and more.
What if mamas knew they aren’t alone in their struggles? That they deserve love and compassion too. That there can be hope found through making connections with others.
The upcoming book, Mamas Need Love and Compassion Too, releasing October 13, shares the stories of many women. They provide encouragement and ways they have learned they need to take care of themselves.
The last mama’s story is a therapist to wrap up the books with additional tips they can apply. They hope moms can connect with their stories, and see there is light at the end of the tunnel.
Centred on connection, community, and the belief that healing grows through shared stories, Mamas Need Love and Compassion Too reminds women that they are not alone.
It is both a companion and a call to compassion—for themselves, for their families, and for every mother navigating the hard, holy work of raising children while trying to heal.
With rising rates of maternal burnout, anxiety, and isolation, the book meets a growing cultural need for compassionate, accessible mental‑health support.

The book highlights the often-unseen mental load mothers manage daily — making it deeply relatable for women who feel stretched thin, unseen, or stuck in survival mode.
The book is written by East Kootenay author Tammy Powder. She is a mama, an author, and a mental health advocate. She has lived in the Northwest Territories, Saskatchewan and B.C., but this is a message for mamas around the world.
She lives with her husband, Denis and four dogs. Tammy is the proud mother of four children. After her daughter, Ruby, passed away, writing became her way forward through words of remembrance, faith, and a dedication to advocacy.
The more Tammy has shared over the years, the more she discovered her journey and words offered comfort to others.
Now she is the author of several books, including the Bella Series for children, which helps kids navigate anxiety, and a collection of poetry. She writes from a place of love, hope, advocacy, and connection.
Her work under Giving Light Publishing continues to honour the love she has for her family and the strength and resilience she hopes to instil in others.
