Obituary of James Martin Thompson
James Martin Thompson
With heavy hearts we share that James “Jim” Martin Thompson passed away at his home on October 2nd, 2026.
Dad was born on June 27th, 1936 at Princeton, BC. He spent his early years between Princeton and Penticton, moving with his parents and two sisters. At 16, while still a student, dad was working on the paint crew of the CP railroad and continued working for another 10 years there.
Dad graduated from Pen High, and then spent a few years at UBC, where he received his teaching certificate in 1962. After 3 years in Fort St. John, 3 more in Salmo, he, along with mom Carol and us 4 kids moved to Cranbrook.
Dad taught at Laurie Junior Secondary for almost 30 years. He had many years of enjoyment teaching math and PE, coaching and refereeing sports, and running Sport pools with his colleagues, he made many friends throughout his teaching career.
Dad and mom loved to travel to Alaska, Cuba, Hawaii and Mexico, but their greatest joy came from their camping trips, all across Canada after retirement and locally, with Norbury being a favourite.
He was predeceased by his wife, Carol, son, Mike and granddaughter, Katie.
Jim is survived by Jackie (Mel), Jan (Hal), and Moge (Tammy), daughter-in-law Henny, grandchildren Laura (Jaakko), Matt (Maria), Jenni (Cody), Brit and Jenna, great grandchildren, sister Gloria and sister-in-law Pat (Eric).
He will be sadly missed.
