Obituary of Brian Frayer Fletcher

Brian Frayer Fletcher

Brian Frayer Fletcher passed away peacefully on September 12th 2026, surrounded by family. He was born in Covina, California in 1951. Brian came to Canada in 1971 and met his future wife Gerri (Geraldine). Brian and Gerri married on March 31, 1971. Together they built a family and future.

Brian valued his family, his Roman Catholic faith and helping others. Brian had a strong connection to nature and felt at home in “the bush”. Brian had a varied work history from trapping to carpentry to horse logging but his greatest passion was his desire to serve those in need.

He dedicated his retirement years to service. First he and Gerri moved to the remote mountains of Peru for 5 years. While Brain never adequately mastered the Spanish language, he demonstrated his love through his work. He developed a model of adobe stoves to support quality of life for the people he lived with. He and Gerri next moved to Yellowknife, NWT for 7 years and was called to street ministry, where he became known as the “Egg Man”. Brian would spend time on the streets of Yellowknife, sharing food, offering support, encouragement and prayer.

Brian was humble, kind, and hard working. He had a unique ability to connect with people, he was not a person to pass judgement and was a friend to many. He had a gift to make people feel special, valued and cared for. Brian would stop and have a conversation with anyone anywhere; he genuinely wanted to hear what you had to say. He was a man who did what needed to be done, not for recognition or accolades, but because he saw a need. Brian loved to laugh and joke and his smile will always be remembered.

Brian leaves his wife and best friend Gerri Fletcher, his daughter Gretchen (Jason) and son Ivan (Jill), granddaughter Alela, sister Melissa Hobbs, nephews Jason and Matt Hobbs, brother-in-laws Mike (Sal) and Joe Fitzgerald. Brian was predeceased by parents Betty and Al Fletcher, in-laws Gerald and Dorothy Fitzgerald and brother-in-law Pat Fitzgerald.

The family would like to express their gratitude to the staff of the 3rd Floor of the East-Kootenay Regional Hospital for their dedicated care and compassion.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Cranbrook Kimberly Hospice Society, Cranbrook Catholic Outreach Program at Christ The Servant Parish or a Charity of your choice.

A Memorial Mass will be held at Christ The Servant Parish on Friday September 18th, 2026 at 11:00 am. A Reception will follow the Mass.

A livestream recording of Brian’s service for friends and family who are unable to attend in person will be available, https://www.hdezwebcast.com/show/brian-fletcher-memorial-mass
