Art for Autism campaign presents Yoga in the Park

By Brandy Sims

I would like to let everyone know about our cause, and our fundraising event!

autismyogaOur fundraising campaign is called ‘Art For Autism.’ All proceeds from our campaign will go to the East Kootenay Behaviour Intervention Program.

My son Riley is five-years-old and has autism. Riley receives his therapy through EK Behaviour Intervention Program. This therapy is essential for him (as it is for all children in the program). Sadly, the program is facing an impending rise in operating costs, and the government will not be providing any additional funding for the kids. So the kids are looking at losing part of the very small amount of hours they are funded for. So the goal of our campaign is to raise enough money to offset these rising costs, and have all the kids keep the hours they have, and continue to progress and thrive!

Our first event will be ‘Yoga in the Park.’ With some help from our wonderful sponsors, Exhale Yoga & Movement Studio; and Just Music, we will be offering an outdoor yoga class on June 22. It will take class at Baker Park at 10 a.m.

We would like to invite everyone to come on down and get your yoga on!

The class is family friendly, fun for all ages! We will have Art for Autism fundraising t-shirts available for purchase, as well as some refreshments for a great deal! We are really hoping for a great turn out for this event, so come on Cranbrook and support these amazing kids! No special equipment needed! Just wear some comfy clothes and be ready for fun!!! For more on our story check out the website at www.art-for-autism.com .

Our follow up event will be held in the fall, and will consist of some fabulous food; a terrific venue, a silent auction featuring some amazing work from local (and a little outside of local) artists as well as some other awesome items that are in the works. We will also have some wonderful musical entertainment!

Our headliner art pieces are going to be created by the kids of the EK Behaviour Intervention Program in collaboration with a local art therapist and a local artist. These works are going to be phenomenal, and there are a very limited number of these available. If you or your company are interested in becoming a corporate sponsor and purchasing one of these beautiful pieces, please contact me for more information at [email protected]; or by phone at 250-417-0092 Tax receipts are available.
