Red Cross opening resiliency centre in Hosmer

The Red Cross will be opening the resiliency centre in the Hosmer Community Centre starting on Sunday, June 30.

The operational hours will be from 8 a.m. – 5 p.m.

They are here to assist us in performing a needs analysis for people impacted by the flooding event that has occurred in the Elk Valley, reports a Regional District of East Kootenay press release.

“They will be manning the facility for face-to-face needs assessment and will also have a field team that will do outreach to citizens outside of the Hosmer area across the Elk Valley.”

Anyone not able to attend the facility can call 250-423-3138 during operational hours and a needs analysis team will make arrangements for a home visit. The Red Cross will help people by putting them in touch with services they may require as well as offer some supplies they have available to assist in peoples’ recovery.

The centre has been approved for seven days and will be evaluated after the first five to determine if an extension is required.
