Toilet rebate applications still available
The 2013 City of Cranbrook Toilet Rebate program has officially reached the halfway mark.
To date, staff has issued 100 rebates this year, valued at $50 each, which leaves only another 100 available.
“This has been a hugely successful program – much more successful than I had ever hoped for,” says Chris Zettel, Corporate Communications Officer with the City of Cranbrook. “In the last three and a half years, we have given out 700 rebates totaling $35,000. I really want to thank everyone who has taken part in this program, not just this year but over the past three years.”
Property owners replacing toilets on all residential, single and multi-family properties in Cranbrook, built prior to January 1, 2013 are eligible to participate in the program. The rebate does not apply to toilets being installed as part of additions or new construction.
Applications for the rebates are evaluated by staff and processed on a first come, first serve basis. Submitting an application does not guarantee a rebate, so residents are encouraged to take part as soon as possible as the remaining rebates will go quickly.
“Taking those 700 big water users offline translates into a significant reduction in overall water use in the city, a significant reduction in the amount of water our aging sewer pipes need to deal with and a significant reduction in the amount of wastewater than needs to be handled by our lagoons and spray irrigation facility,” Zettel notes. “That is significant savings for everyone.”
