BC Parks are under threat
Letter to the Editor
On February 13, Bill 4, an amendment to the Parks Act was introduced by the BC Government. If passed by the legislature, this Bill would allow for exploratory drilling, ore sampling and road building within BC Parks. Wildlife, wilderness and recreation are threatened by this ill-conceived attack on existing protection.
Our parks, including the Purcell Wilderness Conservancy, Height-of-the-Rockies, St. Mary’s Alpine Park, Akamina-Kishenina, Elk Lakes and provincial parks across British Columbia were created to strike a balance on the landscape, to assure future generations have the opportunity to experience the wildlife and wilderness that makes British Columbia unique in the world. These proposed changes threaten the integrity of our park system and the wild places that British Columbians cherish.
Things are moving fast. These changes are scheduled to be debated in the legislature this week! Please take a stand for parks and protected areas in BC now.
