A Charlie Brown Christmas with The Jazz Council
The Jazz Council will bring the sounds of Vince Guaraldi’s classic and timeless soundtrack for A Charlie Brown Christmas, along with tunes from their debut album, Dawn, to Centre 64 in Kimberley on Saturday, December 10 at 7:30 p.m.
Like the movie itself, the soundtrack to A Charlie Brown Christmas has become a beloved staple of the Christmas season since its release in 1965. The album features the trio of Vince Guaraldi on piano, Monty Budwig on bass and Colin Bailey on drums.
Jazz Council members Bernie Primbs (baritone saxophone), Laurel Ralston (trumpet and flute), Tim Plait (piano), Joel Kroeker (bass), and Sven Heyde (drums) are excited to take up the challenge of playing this familiar gem. The quintet will offer their own interpretation of the soundtrack, ranging from close-to-the-original trio tunes to extended versions incorporating their signature blend of trumpet and baritone saxophone.
“We want to be true to the original soundtrack and give our audience the music that they love, and use our style and instrumentation to complement Guaraldi’s arrangements,” says Heyde.
The Jazz Council has had a busy fall following the release of their first album, Dawn, in front of a sold-out crowd at The Stage Door in September. Since then the quintet has been touring the Kootenays, earning rave reviews from audiences at every performance. In addition to Kimberley, they will take their A Charlie Brown Christmas programme to Kaslo and Fernie.
Tickets to the concert at Centre 64 cost $15 each and are now on sale at Black Bear Books & Video in Kimberley and Just Music in Cranbrook. The first 15 people to buy tickets at either location will receive a beautiful hand-printed letterpress poster from Clawhammer Press. For more information, visit www.thejazzcouncil.com.
