Steele Scouts to perform at 2014 Sam Steele Days
On Saturday, June 21, the Steele Scouts will celebrate the 50th Anniversary of Sam Steele Days with the City of Cranbrook.
The Steele Scouts Commemorative Militia Cavalry (The Troop) were formed in 1977 by a group of men with a keen interest in early Western Canadian history. They have been judged historically correct to 1885 as to uniform and drill and have made a record setting 35 appearances in the Calgary Stampede Parade. Currently with 30 active riders, they have re-enacted all of the original Marches of 1885.
Their troop will participate in the parade, perform a drill set and then stand on guard near the Central Fairgrounds for all to admire. There will be a celebrity “Inspection of the Guard” at approximately 1:30 p.m. with plenty of photo opportunities for everyone!
The Sam Steele Society would like to acknowledge and express appreciation to the Rotary Club of Cranbrook for their sponsorship of this very special troop and the generosity of Jerry Thibeault and family for their hospitality.
Schedule of events are on the official Sam Steele Days website at www.samsteeledays.org.
