Drug and alcohol presentation DTSS PAC

On March 6 at 7 p.m. I will be doing a drug presentation to the David Thompson Secondary School Parent Advisory Committee. Once again I have approached Donna and Greg Gylander from Golden to attend and participate in the presentation. Donna and Greg have a dynamic slide show presentation and discussion on their daughter’s battle with drug dependency and eventual death at a young age. Good parents who did the right things and still lost. What signs did they see and how did they deal with it?  What message do they have for parents? What is the drug scene in the valley and what are we doing about it at the detachment level?

A busy February 23

On Feb. 23 at 8 a.m. the detachment received a complaint of a damaged backhoe located in the Elk Park Ranch area. A window was damaged. Anyone with information is requested to contact the detachment.

On Feb. 23 the detachment received a complaint of a seasonal residence broken into in the Galena School Road area. A house was broken into in the last week. Nothing reported stolen to date.

At 6:50 p.m. on Feb. 23 detachment members responded to a domestic assault complaint on Dincey Rd.  A 51-year-old male was located the next day and charged with assault. The victim did not require medical attention. Days later the male was arrested and charged with breaching his release undertaking to have no contact with the victim. The male will appear in Invermere Provincial Court on June 4.

At 10:30 p.m. on Feb 23, detachment members responded to a domestic assault complaint in the 8000 block of Grainger Road in Canal Flats.  A 59-year-old male was struck with a metal bar. The male was taken to the hospital for neck and head injuries.  A 46-year-old female residing in the same house was arrested and charged with assault with weapon.

Off duty Calgary cops detain drunk driver in KNP

At 5 p.m. on Feb. 24, off duty Calgary police officers followed a male traveling in Kootenay National Park, believed to be highly intoxicated. When the vehicle stopped for fuel the off duty members detained the person until Columbia Valley Detachment members attended. The male was found to be intoxicated and the breath demand was read. The male blew well over the legal limit and charged with driving a vehicle over .06.  When the off duty officers showed a video of the male’s driving he was also charged with dangerous driving.  A 30-year-old male from Calgary will be appearing in Invermere Provincial Court on May 7.

No injuries in single MVA

Columbia Valley Detachment members responded to a single vehicle accident involving a 98 Subaru Legacy at 7:10 p.m. on Feb 25. The vehicle was northbound on Highway 93/95 when it passed a vehicle. During this time the vehicle lost control and ended up in the ditch. There were no injuries to the driver and passenger. Floor hockey update

RCMP 1 High school kids big fat 0. The RCMP are now 3-0 at league play. The girl’s team might give us more competition.

Tied 1-1

While working in Salmon Arm my partner and I responded to an out of control male at a house party. When we arrived we realized and recognized the out of control male was a coked up steroid fellow. Big muscles, small testicles.

This fellow was out of control and we knew this was going to get down and dirty. The other fear is for the other people around.  Would they turn on us while scrapping with the steroid rage fellow? My partner this day was Tony and the fight is on. Tony and I are trying to get him into a submission hold but the guy is feeling no pain. We are rolling on the ground while at the same time, I’m keeping an eye on the other people around.

Both our shirts are torn, pants full of grass stains and we are barely holding our own.  Tony finally gets a good choke hold on him and now the fellow’s face is going blue.  I yell at Tony to loosen his grip. Big mistake; as soon as Tony released his grip the fight is back on.  End result is we get a good hold and get the cuffs on. Off to the detachment we go.

As we arrive at the detachment the Sergeant, knowing we had problems, was outside waiting for us. We exit the car and the Sergeant sees us – banged up, bruised, shirts ripped.  He is shaking his head.  “Hey, we got him,” I respond.

Even though we got him cuffed, I have to give the fight to the steroid freak. Weeks later I respond on my own to the same house; with no back up. I’m already in tears anticipating the beating I’m about to receive. But, that’s why I get paid the big bucks.  This time the male is drugged up and passed out on his stomach in the living room. I go down on my stomach to go face to face with him and with a finger I open up his eyes and call him by name and he responds with a grunt.

This was my comment to him, “It’s Marko, let’s go round two, I think I can take you now.”  He grunted. I took this grunt  as him conceding and called it a 1-1 tie.
