Fresh snow causing havoc for Kimberley RCMP
The fresh snow was great for skiers last week but not so good for drivers. Kimberley RCMP detachment reports its members have responded to a number of crashes, all of which were related to the conditions.
“In two cases vehicles hit equipment working at clearing the snow. The city vehicles did not sustain much damage but the cars did. Both were on slippery hills and vehicles were sliding. Fortunately there were no serious injuries,” reported Kimberley detachment Cpl. Chris Newel.
“One vehicle slid off the highway in Meadowbrook. The vehicle went down a steep embankment but it remained upright and did impact anything substantive so the driver was not seriously injured. She was brought up to the road by Kimberley Fire Rescue and transported to hospital by ambulance to be treated.
“Another crash occurred near the high school,” Cpl. Newel stated. “A subject lost control in the slushy conditions, crossed over and struck a vehicle in the oncoming lane. The driver of that vehicle was taken to hospital; why? Because he wasn’t wearing his seat belt. Just a few weeks ago I wrote about the merits of wearing your seat belt. In this case the driver was taken to hospital by ambulance due to the injuries sustained when his head struck the windshield. He will be getting a violation ticket for failing to wear his seat belt. The evidence? Hair embedded in the cracked windshield.”
Police also found that the vehicle did not have a current license plate or valid insurance. “It will be an expensive day for this driver,” Cpl. Newel said.
