Low flush toilet rebate applications now available

Applications for the City of Cranbrook Low Flush Toilet Rebate program will be available for pick up or download as of today – Tuesday, May 1.

Applications can be picked up at City Hall during regular business hours or downloaded from the city website – www.cranbrook.ca, then clicking on Residents/Water Conservation.

“We have been fielding steady calls from our residents chomping at the bit to taking advantage of the rebate program,” says Chris Zettel, Corporate Communications Officer for the City of Cranbrook. “It is exciting to see the continuing interest in this rebate program entering its third year.”

The City of Cranbrook will provide a rebate to homeowners who install a low flow toilet to replace a higher volume fixture (greater than six litres per flush). The program is designed to encourage homeowners to replace high volume toilets with low flow fixtures to conserve water, thereby contributing to a sustainable water conservation initiative.

The Low Flow Toilet Rebate program is funded to a maximum of $10,000 per year. There is a lifetime maximum of two $50 rebates (maximum $100) per residence. Submitting an application does not guarantee a rebate – each application will be evaluated and processed on a first-come, first-serve basis.

“Property owners replacing toilets on all residential, single and multi-family properties in Cranbrook, built prior to January 1, 2012 are eligible to participate in the program,” Zettel says. “The rebate, however does not apply to toilets being installed as part of additions or new construction. Industrial, commercial and other non-residential properties are not eligible at this time.”

To qualify for a rebate, you must be a property owner in the limits of the City of Cranbrook. Starting Tuesday May 1, you can download the rebate program application forms from the city’s website or visit City Hall.

Purchase and install a new certified six litre or dual flush toilet and be sure to properly dispose of your old toilet in an environmentally responsible manner.
