Province agrees to extend completion date for Dry Gulch water
The ongoing saga of a new water system for the Dry Gulch area south of Radium Hot Springs continues.
In need of a new system for more than a decade, Dry Gulch residents have to wait a little longer for it to become a reality.
However, the good news is the provincial government has agreed to extend the completion date, as stipulated when it provided $1,798,000 in B.C. Community Water Improvement Project funds in 2005, until March 31, 2013.
The project was originally supposed to be completed March 31, 2010, but in 2008 an extension to March 31, 2012 was approved by the Ministry of Community, Sport and Cultural Development.
In a letter to the Regional District of East Kootenay (RDEK) the province noted it recognizes that an option for servicing is being investigated locally.
On May 4, RDEK board chair Rob Gay and chief administrative officer Lee-Ann Crane signed the Modification Agreement with the province to extend the completion date of the Dry Gulch Water System Project.
