In the early afternoon of Tuesday, August 25, 2015, George Gordon Bicknell passed away at the East Kootenay Regional Hospital in Cranbrook at the age of 85 years. George was born in Russell, Manitoba on May 21, 1930.
In George’s youth, he worked for his Father at a farm fuel distribution service in Russell. In the early 1950’s he moved to Calgary and opened his own business which he ran for many years, Acme Aluminum Products. Dad also worked as a carpenter during these years. He loved sports of all kinds, but especially hockey, football, curling and snowmobiling. In later years, his main interest was fishing and golfing. He was very active in golf and played a game every day he could.
In the 1970’s, George bought a cabin on the shores of Lake Windermere but eventually he decided to move permanently to the place he loved most, the Columbia Valley and Radium.
George is survived by four sons; Dean (Cathy), Rick (Rose), Colin (Annette) and John as well as his grandchildren; Michael (Shira), Kelly (Gordon), Jessie (Michael), Jenny (Scott) and Cory (Nancy) and three great grandchildren; Emilia, Sadie and Austin. George was predeceased by the mother of his children; Doris, his daughter, Bonnie and one granddaughter Tera, two brothers; William and Don and his mother and dad, George and Anne Bicknell
A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, August 30, 2015 at 1:00 pm at the Radium Seniors Centre, 4863 Stanley Street, Radium. Condolences may be left for the family at www.markmemorial.com
