MarieMarie “Molly” DORATTY

September 3, 1927 – September 7, 2015

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Marie Vivian (Molly) Doratty at 88 years of age on Monday, September 7, 2015. She was born in Aspen Grove, B.C. on September 3, 1927 to loving parents Alrick Gustav Larson and Jessie Frances Swanson.

Her early years were spent in Blakeburn, B.C. The family moved to Fernie and then to Natal in 1941 where she met Bob Doratty, the love of her life and soul mate. On May 3, 1947 they were married and enjoyed 66 wonderful years together raising their five children.

Our beloved Mother, Grandmother and GG will forever be remembered for her devotion to her husband and her large expansive family. She was happiest and most proud when surrounded by those she loved. Our hearts were touched by this wonderful person who we were blessed to have in our lives. She leaves a great example for all to follow about lasting marriages, and about raising children in a secure household.

Our cherished Matriarch was a person of many talents and hobbies including being a gifted quilter who created amazing quilts for her entire family.

She served as a Councillor for 12 years on the Sparwood Town Council, was a lifetime Golf Club member and was a talented curler who won many bonspiels through the years. She was involved with the Catholic Women’s League and recently received her 60 year pin. Molly worked at the Post Office for 12 years.

She was a keen traveller and travelled to Japan, Mexico, and also attended the 40th, 50th, and 60th D-Day Anniversaries in Europe.

Molly is survived by her children Bob (Rose) Doratty, Lorna (Roland) Perri, Judy (Roger) Berdusco, Kathy (Andy) Wilson, and Nancy (Rob) Roulston; 13 grandchildren: Russell (Annie), Robert, Lauren (Christian), Alana (David), Diana (Brett), Kirsten (Rob), Jeff (Tegan) , Dan (Melanie), Jillian (Zoltan), Kayla, Cara, Pearce, and Brett, and 10 great grandchildren: Zoe, Desmond, Hazel, Gus, Chase, Sydne, Julius, Mia, Seren, and Brooke. She is also survived by her sister Sheila Little, and her brother-in-law Brian Doratty as well as several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Robert Doratty, her parents, her sister Harriet Pacey and her brother Charles Larson.

The family would like to thank Dr. Shawna Dawe for her never ending support, and Dr. Paul Michael and all the doctors and nurses at the East Kootenay Regional Hospital who assisted in her care. We would also like to thank all the wonderful staff at Joseph Creek in Cranbrook and Lilac Terrace in Sparwood for helping to make Mom feel at home.
