It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Sabato De Rita on September 9, 2026. Sabato was born on October 21, 1951 in Petruro, Italy. In 1962, he immigrated to Cranbrook with his family, settling in the Slaterville area.

During his younger years, Sabato was well known for his exceptional tennis and soccer skills. He could take on many opponents on the tennis court without breaking a sweat. He also tried out for and played with the Rovers, sharing his love of soccer with the community.

Sabato could often be seen riding his red bike around town or spending time with his Italian buddies.

Those early years were filled with friendship, sports, laughter, and cherished memories.

He enjoyed the simple pleasures in life, especially Kentucky Fried Chicken, his mom’s Pizza Chena, and fresh vegetables from the garden. Most of all he treasured gathering with his family, where food, stories and togetherness made lasting memories.

He is survived by his brothers Mario (Gwen), Jim (Kathy), Frank (Erin), nieces Jalaine (Dale), Tracey (Dana) Maria (Andrew), Julia (Jesse), and Breanne, also his nephews Joseph (Dustin), Lucas, and Aiden.

Sabato was predeceased by his father Giovanni, his mother Rosa, and by his sister Filomena.
