Obituary for Elizabeth Mae Hogg “Bette”

Elizabeth Mae Hogg

“Bette”

Elizabeth Hogg passed away peacefully at home surrounded by love on Friday, July 7, 2017.

Elizabeth was born and raised in Winnipeg, Manitoba. She spent much of her childhood running on rocks and picking up snakes at the family cottage at Brereton Lake…this is where her true love of nature and animals first developed and lasted throughout her life. As an adult, life took her on a journey from Winnipeg, to Edmonton, Calgary, Lethbridge and eventually living in the mountains of Kimberley, British Columbia. Her four children and five grandchildren meant the world to her. She was a devoted and dedicated mother and grandmother…she will live on in us forever.

When people described Elizabeth they used words such as “generous, kind, caring and loving”. She was all of that. Her door was always open to anyone who needed her…both people and animals! She was constantly giving of herself. Her chocolate chip cookies were famous and one bite would make all problems fade away! When she wasn’t baking you could find her in the garden…that was her happy place and she shared her masterpiece with anyone who wanted to enjoy it! Writing was another passion of Elizabeth’s. She spent many hours filling her journals with very wise words of wisdom. In the coming months and years, her words will bring comfort to everyone that reads them.

Rescuing animals was always a central part of Elizabeth’s life….cats, dogs, a wounded crow from the side of the road, an injured squirrel from the back yard, etc…she never turned her back on an animal in need. Our house has always been full of furry friends.

More words that were used to describe Elizabeth are “strong, feisty, a firecracker, spirited, an inspiration and determined”. It is these qualities that enabled her to become a successful business woman and to overcome many obstacles throughout her life. She spent years in the retail industry and was co-owner of Fanny’s Fabrics in Lethbridge and Medicine Hat. In 2003, she ventured into the world of art and became co-owner of Caprice Fine Art & Co Inc. Many of the relationships that developed from these businesses continued through the years and she treasured the memories.

Elizabeth will be sadly missed by her daughter Caprice Hogg, son David Rous, daughter Lisa (Russell) Hooper, son James (Carleen) Rous; grandchildren: Brayden, Megan and Austin Hooper, Scott and Derek Rous, dog Lucas and cats Lorenzo, Fred and Oliver.

Elizabeth was predeceased by her mother Lillian Main, her father James Main, her brother Glen Main and her brother Kenneth Main.

A celebration of life will take place in her garden in Kimberley, BC on Saturday, August 12, 2017 at 2:00 pm. Anyone wishing to celebrate with us is welcome!

In lieu of flowers, please send a donation to one of Elizabeth’s favourite animal rescue charities: Yamnuska Wolfdog Sanctuary, Northern Lights Wildlife Society or Flying Fur Animal Rescue.
