Obituary for APPOLONIA JOSEPHINE MARASCO

MARASCO (JASHNICKY)APPOLONIA JOSEPHINE (POLLY)

FEBRUARY 20, 1927 – NOVEMBER 12, 2019

It is with great love and cherished memories that we announce the passing of Polly Marasco, our gentle, caring and compassionate mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She passed peacefully on November 12, 2019 at the age of 92.

Polly was born in Blairmore AB on February 20,1927, the third of four daughters, born to John and Mary Jashnicky. She graduated as a RN from the Holy Cross Hospital in Calgary in 1950 and went on to work in many places across the US. Some of her favourite places included Juneau Alaska, Tillamook Oregon, Denver Colorado and New York State. She spoke fondly of her many adventures and life long friends she made. Upon returning to Canada, Polly settled in Cranbrook where she met the love of her life Fred Marasco. Together they had their 2 daughters; Susan in 1961 and Donna in 1963. Polly raised her 2 girls alone from an early age while working at the Cranbrook Hospital, St. Mary’s School and the Cranbrook Home Support. She was loyal sister and close friend to her sister Marion, and the 2 could be found shopping, sharing coffee and spending many Christmas celebrations together. Polly was proud to have belonged to ‘the rummoli group’ for over 50 years. This great group of friends played cards, attended dances and shared many events.

Polly was pre-deceased by the love of her life Fred Marasco in 1970, as well as her parents, her 3 sisters (Wanda, Julia and Marion) and her great grandson (Callen). She is survived by her daughters (Susan and Donna); son-in-laws (Bob and Dan); grandchildren (Adam, Kaitlin, Lauren, Austin and Reid); and great grandchildren (Gage, Madison, Kaydin and Norah). This beautiful soul will be greatly missed and is forever in our hearts.

Service will be held Monday, November 18, 2019 at 1:00 pm at St. Mary’s Parish in Cranbrook, BC. Light refreshments will follow in the church basement.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Stollery Children’s Hospital in Edmonton.

Condolences for the family can be offered at: www.markmemorial.com
