Obituary for Frans Anton Reinarz “Frank”

Frans Anton Reinarz

“Frank”
1923 – 2018

Frank (Opa) passed away after a brief illness at the East Kootenay Regional Hospital, just short of his 95th Birthday. Frank was born in Honnef, Germany and after he completed his formal education in Switzerland, he immigrated to Canada in August of 1949. He ended up in Kimberley, BC, as a young geologist with the Consolidated Mining and Smelting Company of Canada; a career that took him through to his retirement in 1982. It was through this employment that he met his wife Cara, a draftsperson working in the office. Once married, they started a family and established a summer house at Columbia Lake, which they expanded to a home upon Frank’s retirement. He continued to live in his home at Columbia Lake until 2008, at which time he started to spend increasing amounts of time with his family in Cranbrook.

Frank is survived by one son John (Rhonda), daughter-in-law Lynn, three grandchildren William (Danielle), Scott (Amber) and Erika, as well as four great grandchildren Kinsley, Luke, Lauren and Caleb. He was predeceased by his wife Cara of 47 years in 2002.

The family will be hosting an informal gathering to celebrate Frank’s life at the Community Hall of Columbia Ridge Estates at 2:00 pm on Saturday, June 9, 2018.

The family request that in lieu of flowers, and because Frank was an advocate of lifelong learning, that donations to the Cranbrook Public Library would be greatly appreciated, or any charity of your choice.
