Obituary for Joseph Plonka

Plonka, Joseph

July 8, 1941 – Weyburn, SK
March 11, 2018 – Cranbrook, BC

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Joseph William Plonka at the age of 76 on March 11, 2018 after a valiant battle with cancer.

Joseph was predeceased by his loving wife Christina in 2011, his parents, Joseph and Catherine, and his only sibling, Alice.

He was a loving father to Cathy (James Herrick) and John; a cherished grandfather to Andrew (Mandy), Daniel (Trislyn) and Gabrielle; great-grandfather to Asher; and fun-loving uncle to many nieces and nephews.

Joe spent his career in financial services in Saskatchewan and British Columbia where his integrity, honesty, and trust were hallmarks of his enduring successes.

Joe lived a full and happy life with no regrets; avid sports fan, lover of the outdoors and camping (a passion he shared with his wife for many years), and keen card player. He shared his pursuits with his family and enriched their lives with his wisdom, wit, and humour.

Rest now in peace Dad; we love you.

The family gives its heartfelt thanks to Dr. Pieterse and the staff of East Kootenay Regional Hospital for their compassionate care; to Diana and Carol for their day-to-day assistance; and to friends whose visits brightened Dad’s days.

A funeral service will be held at the Cranbrook United Church (2 – 12th Avenue South) on Monday, March 19 at 10:30 am. A private interment will follow in Lethbridge at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Joseph’s name to The Salvation Army.
