Obituary of Albert Carr
Albert Carr
Bert, at age 91, left peacefully with his family by his side — no doubt ready to visit with old friends, travel a few highways, and share a few stories with anyone willing to listen. His family and friends were proud to have known him, and his incredible kindness and quiet demeanour will be deeply missed.
He had recently put his scooter away for the winter, content with a bit of freedom and independence. Many evenings were spent enjoying competitive games of dominoes, pegs and jokers, or crib with friends — and even more special moments surrounded by family, including this past Thanksgiving in Fairmont.
Throughout the years, Bert and Donna travelled countless miles RVing across Canada and the U.S., always eager to meet new friends. Their adventures took them to Costa Rica, Jamaica, Portugal, Spain, Great Britain, and on several cruises. His family could always count on him for advice about the newest, greatest, and best vehicles.
Bert’s love of music is what brought him to Donna McDougall — they met at a New Year’s Eve party where their lifelong dance began. They were married in Strome, Alberta on May 1, 1959, and from that day forward, Donna knew she had started her life with a very good man.
Bert was predeceased by his parents, Ben and Rose Carr; brothers Ben (Irene), Tom (Eileen), Ron (Sheila), Gordon (Sherran), and Don; and sister Violet. He is survived by brothers David and Gerry, and sisters Dorothy, Ruth, Linda, and Barbara.
He is lovingly remembered by his wife of 66 years, Donna; daughter Debbie Rogers (Mike Schell); son Gregory O’Carroll (Marie); and grandchildren Lindsay Lenius (Adam), Kelly Rogers (Rikkea), Shayana O’Carroll, Darcy O’Carroll, and Teigan O’Carroll. Bert was a proud great-grandpa (“Papa Bert”) to Sabella Lenius, Riviera Rogers, and Finn Rogers, along with numerous nieces and nephews.
Remembering the special love Papa Bert had for each family member — and sharing so many treasured memories — will help us each get through this difficult time.
The family wishes to extend heartfelt thanks to the hospital staff and home care workers who cared for Papa Bert and shared many meaningful moments with him over the past year.
A service will be held in the spring.
