Obituary of Alexander Gredzuk

Alexander GREDZUK

March 18, 1932 ~ June 12, 2021 (age 89)

Alexander Gredzuk, our beloved father, grandfather, brother, and uncle passed away peacefully at the Elk Valley Hospital with his children by his side on Saturday, June 12, 2021, at the age of 89.  He was born March 18, 1932 in Fernie, BC.

Alex is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Arlene and Ray Dykhuizen and their children Rosemary (Brad), Megan (Denison), Emily and Laura; his son and daughter-in-law, Stephen and Jody Gredzuk and their children Sarah (Kadin) and Tyson (Alexis), and his sisters Annie Olsen, Mary Sargent, and Marlene (Rich) Peninger as well as many nephews and nieces. He was predeceased by his loving wife Lucille on April 5, 2021, parents Nicholas and Mary Gredzuk, sisters Margaret Smith and Isabel Gredzuk, and his brothers, Johnny and Bill Ewaniuk.

Alex started working at the age of 15, logging in the Cedar Valley before working underground in the Coal Creek and Michel mines. After mining, Alex worked with the Department of Highways, road building and plowing until his retirement in 1988.

Alex grew up in Fernie and met Lucille through friends. They were married November 1, 1958, and continued to reside in Fernie where they started their family. Alex enjoyed camping with Lucille and his family and friends. He enjoyed gardening, fishing, hunting, gold panning, and going out to get his winter supply of firewood, or just driving around in his truck with his “granddogs”.  Together Alex and Lucille enjoyed travelling to Reno, and then in later years, their weekly trips to Cranbrook.

Alex, Dad, Grandpa, we love you and you will be in our hearts forever.  We know you will be watching over us.
