Ed passed away peacefully in the Cranbrook Regional Hospital at the age of 94.

Ed was born in Edam Saskatchewan to Charles & Dorothy Cotton. He was the youngest of 4 children.

Ed moved to Creston in 1948 with his parents.

On September 3, 1955, he married Patricia Samuelson in Canyon BC. They were the first couple to be married in the new Canyon United Church.

In 1955 they moved to Cranbrook, where their two daughters RoseMarie & Karen were born. In 1961 they moved to Golden to start a new chapter of their lives. In 1962 their son, Ronald was born.

While living in Golden Ed liked to golf, hunt, fish, snow machine and camp. He was active in the Golden Curling club, Rod & Gun Club and the Golden Sno-Kings.

Many weekends & holidays were spent at Esplande Bay on Kinbasket Lake. It started with a vision for a campsite. Roads built, wharfs constructed, a water system, cabanas and cabins sprung up to be enjoyed by all. A little fishing, huckleberry picking, cards and games made their time enjoyable at “The Lake”. Lifetime friendships were formed. Many winters were spent in California & Arizona.

Ed retired in 1990 from Byers Transport as the Branch Manager. In 1999 Ed & Pat moved to Invermere where they joined the Invermere & Radium Seniors Clubs. During the summers they enjoyed time spent with the Rocky Mnt. Good Sam RV Club.

Ed loved to cook, he enjoyed preparing breakfast, especially pancakes for everyone. Both Ed & Pat helped with the Seniors Soup Days, making soup, fresh buns & cookies.

In September of 2024, Ed & Pat moved to Nanaimo to live with their son Ron and his wife Carrie.

In February of 2026, Ed & Pat moved back to the Kootenays to the city of Cranbrook.

Ed is lovingly survived by his wife Patricia of 70 years. Their three children, RoseMarie (Jamie) Karen (Darrell) Ronald (Carrie). He has 8 grandchildren – Mason, Jeff, Eric, Chrstine, Craig, Zack, Jared & Rose. He also had 9 great-grandchildren.
