Obituary of Christine Anne Symonds

Christine Anne Symonds

We are deeply saddened to share that Christine died on February 5 at home in the Windermere Valley. Her grace, kindness and sincerity will be missed by all who knew her. Christine was an active member of the local fitness centre, she enjoyed volunteering at the library, and loved time spent outside with her close friends. She was a voracious reader with a thirst for knowledge. Mum was a talented seamstress, knitter, quilter, and cook. Solving cryptic crosswords and Wordle with family was a daily pleasure. Mum and Dad also enjoyed travelling, spending extended time in England and New Zealand.

Christine grew up in Sunderland, Northern England. While working on the Bridlington buses in 1965, she met Tony. They married, began a family, and in 1975 immigrated to Canada. Time was spent living in Bragg Creek and Calgary before retiring to the family ‘cabin’ they had built together.

Mum was the anchor of our family, affectionately known as Mum, Grandma Christine, MaTine, and Gigi to us. She will be loving remembered by her daughters – Sally (Alex), Kate (Jeff) and Marianne, her grandchildren – Jessica (Jon), Sarah (Brandon), Jake (Robyn), Adam (Meghan), Hannah (Darian), Annie (Beck), Piper, and Hunter, as well as her great grandchildren – Paisley, Finn, Rhea, River, Ella, Beau, Austin, and Lucy. Mum also leaves her brothers, John and Austin, her sister, Margaret and their families, Tony’s family, and many cherished friends. Sadly, Christine was predeceased by the love of her life, Tony, as well as her great grandson, Remy.

We are so appreciative of the wonderful support Mum received, especially from Dr. Maslowska, and Jessie from Home Care. This difficult time has made us realize how special and welcoming this community is. It’s comforting to know Mum had so many dear friends.

If friends so desire, a donation may be made to Mercy Ships Canada (a charity generously supported by Christine that provides cleft lip and palate surgeries for children in third world countries) – Mercyships.ca.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
