Darryl William GILLIS

It is with deep sorrow and much love that we mourn the passing of Darryl Gillis of Fernie, BC on September 4, 2022 at the age of 56 years. Darryl was born in Fernie, BC on September 14, 1965, the son of Audrey (Muir) and late William “Bill” Gillis.

Raised in Fernie, Darryl graduated from Fernie Secondary in 1984. He spent time working in Pincher Creek and Calgary, but found his way back to Fernie, working as a service advisor at Woz Mechanical in Hosmer. An enthusiastic NASCAR fan, Darryl became an invaluable crew member with local racing teams including the Krogstad Racing team and the Mitchell family Red Rabbit Racing team.

Darryl became a diabetic early in his life and faced many health challenges. Despite these challenges, Darryl always had a smile on his face; he was truly a kind, gentle soul.

Darryl will be lovingly remembered by his mother Audrey, his brother Michael (Bonnie) Gillis, and his uncle Bill (Sharon) Muir. He will also be dearly missed by nieces Niki Gillis, Angela Gillis, Heather Matheson, Tara McDonald, his nephew Kieran McDonald, and close cousins Cindy (Bob) Johnsen, Rick Wright, Vicki Hayward, and Wes (LeeAnn) Wright as well as many extended family members and wonderful friends.

The Gillis family would like to thank the doctors and healthcare workers in Fernie and surrounding areas that attended to Darryl’s health concerns throughout the years. We would also like to acknowledge all those who have reached out to us during this difficult time; your thoughtfulness is very much appreciated.
