Obituary of Elizabeth “Betty” Violet Zaleschuk

Elizabeth “Betty” Violet Zaleschuk

Elizabeth (Betty) Violet Zaleschuk passed away peacefully in Cranbrook Hospital on May 24, 2026, at the age of 90.

Betty (Baba) was born in Nakusp, BC, on October 12, 1935, and was raised in Sheep Creek near Salmo, BC, with her sister Rose Johnson (deceased 2018). Following marriage to her husband Alan, they lived in Trail before settling in Kimberley, where they raised their two daughters.

Betty loved her gardening, bowling, and bingo. In her later years, she liked nothing more than watching the birds and wildlife passing by her window. Very much the mother and grandmother, she took great joy in her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, treasuring time spent with them and watching them grow.

Betty is survived by her daughters, Shirley (Bruce) Rattray and Dianne Murphy.

Grandchildren: Michael (Sara), Theresa, Monte (Brittney), Allyce (Stephen), and Kevin (Jen).

Great-grandchildren: Tori, Liam, Hailey, Alexander, Eli, Zoe, Ben, Lily, and Lark.

Betty was predeceased by her husband Alan of 71 years in June 2025, her grandson James Murphy in May 2012, and her son-in-law John Murphy in December 2025.

Special thanks to her goddaughter Paula and all the nurses at Cranbrook Hospital, and the staff of GardenView Village for their care and kindness.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer Society of B.C.

A graveside service will be held on Saturday, July 4, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. at the Columbarium in Kimberley, BC. Please join us for a reception at Dianne’s place Collette Manor following the service.
