Obituary of James “Jimmy” CAMILLI
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our father, brother and grandfather, James Vincent Camilli, (Jim). He passed away at the Elk Valley Hospital in Fernie, B.C. on July 22,2026, with his children at his side. He had suffered a stroke in the previous weeks, followed by more mini strokes, before he peacefully slipped away.
Jim was born on September 10,1941 to parents, Mike & Agnes Camilli in Fernie, B.C. They lived in Hosmer, B.C. before the family moved to Fernie, where Jim grew up with his 6 siblings and has lived in the Kootenays his whole life.
He is predeceased by his wife, Heather; parents, Mike & Agnes and his sister, Camille. Left to mourn his passing are his children: Mel, Michelle (Derek-deceased), Nathan (Patricia), and Katrina; brothers, Garth, Chris (Margaret) and Michael, and sisters, Cheryl (Paul), Beryl; grandchildren, Kelsey and Kyler, and his beloved dog, Cane.
Jim went to school at a young age to get his Journeyman Carpenters ticket and went wherever the job took him in order to take care of his family. He hunted and fished his whole life, keeping the freezer full to feed his growing brood. He married the love of his life, Heather McLellan, on October 17,1964.
Anyone that knew Jim knew that if they stopped by, there was always coffee on and he would always offer something to eat. He could talk to anyone, even a stranger, about anything or nothing at all for hours on end. He just enjoyed chatting with people and he made anyone feel welcome to come and sit for a while. He might even belt out a song on a whim if you were lucky enough. Jim spent a lot of time camping, fishing and hunting with his young family and taught us all to love nature and to learn what it could provide, whether it be food, knowledge, the joy of another’s company or the peace of being alone from time to time.
Jim will be missed by all who were lucky enough to know him, but we’ll keep the coffee pot on for him, as it’s been on his whole life.
