Obituary of James Wellington Dentrey

James Wellington Dentrey

Jim left us today surrounded by love from family and friends. His passing was very calm and peaceful. And as Jim used to say to his grandchildren, “We’re going on another mission.”

Jim leaves his wife of 52 years, 7 months and 26 days, Dianne. As well as his wonderful children and his amazing grandchildren who brought so much laughter and joy to his life.

Jim worked as a heavy duty mechanic at many of the mines in the East Kootenays.

He also spent many wonderful years as a Community Works Supervisor in the First Nation Dogrib communities in the Northwest Territories and worked as a Mechanic Trainer as BHP Diamond Mine.

In Jim’s younger years he was a hunter, a fisherman, a boater and a skier. As Jim got older he became a devoted golfer, spending up to seven days a week on the golf course with many days of playing two rounds. He never became a scratch golfer but he did manage to shoot a hole in one

There was nothing Jim loved better than to be out and about in his golf cart, earning the nickname name “Golfcart Jim”, or in the winter, in the truck driving around seeing who he could find to talk to. About a year ago, he got a black and yellow side-by-side that he named “Bumblebee”. It came with windows and a heater so he could be more comfortable driving around. Wherever we were, within a very short time, Jim came to know everyone’s name and many of the people he met became lifelong friends.

Jim will be remembered and missed by many. There is no greater legacy than that any man can have.
