Jane BINTER

Born on January 26, 1956, in Canmore, Alberta, Jane grew up alongside her four siblings. She pursued her passion for nursing, graduating from the Foothills Nursing program at the University of Calgary in 1977. Shortly after beginning her career as an RN in Cranbrook, BC, she met her husband, Heinz Binter. The couple married and moved to Fernie in 1983, where they built a wonderful life together and raised their two sons, Christopher and Andrew.

Jane dedicated 32 years of service to the Elk Valley Hospital in Fernie, retiring in 2015. Over the course of her career, she served in multiple roles, culminating in her position as the Manager of Acute Care. Jane touched the lives of so many in the community through her work with her empathy and kind-hearted nature.

Those who knew Jane will remember her for her enduring kindness and generosity. Jane loved the holidays, especially Christmas and Easter, and would prepare wonderful baking and dinners for family and friends.

Jane had a deep love for singing, skiing, biking, reading, and traveling. Jane enjoyed road trips around Western Canada and the United States with her family during the summer months, always eager to explore and uncover hidden gems throughout their travels. One of her greatest joys was lending her beautiful voice to the community and Holy Family Church choirs for over 40 years.

Above all, Jane cherished her family and friends. She is survived by her husband Heinz; her sons, Christopher (Bonita) and Andrew (Krista); her grandchildren Alex and Audrey; and her siblings Judy-Ann (Joe), John (Karen), Jay (Rosemary); sister-in-law Cathy; along with her large extended family. She was predeceased by her parents Jim and Jean Sampson and her brother Jimmy.

The family extends heartfelt thanks to Jane’s friends, the staff at the Rocky Mountain Village and Dr. Shayne Soetaert for their care and support.
