Kenneth Bruce BURNS

September 9, 1940 ~ January 27, 2021 (age 80)

A.K.A. “The Fly Guy”

Supported by his family and caregivers, Ken passed away peacefully at his home on January 27, 2021 at the age of 80 years. He was born on September 9, 1940 in Saskatoon, SK to parents Bruce and Elsie (nee Glennie) Burns.

Ken is survived by his brother John (Yvonne0 Burns and his sister Barbara (Harold) Brooks; three nieces: Candace, Yvette, and Sherry, and his dearest friend and companion, Edie Williams and his beloved Sterling, as well as many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his father Bruce and his mother Elsie.

Ken served in the Royal Canadian Navy in the 1960’s and upon his discharge worked various jobs until beginning his career with Canada Safeway Ltd. After a few years as the Produce Manager, Ken decided to drive transport truck for Safeway; driving from Calgary to Edmonton five nights a week for the better part of 25 years. Ken retired in 1995 and began doing the things he loved; travelling and camping alone in the Yukon (6 times); once getting within 30 miles of the Arctic Circle.

In 2009, Ken moved to the Elk Valley and absolutely loved it! An outdoor enthusiast, he was an avid fisherman and loved tying his own flies, hence the nickname “The Fly Guy”. Anyone who knew Ken also knew that he loved all children and animals. He will be dearly missed by those who knew and loved him.
