Obituary of Mildred “Millie” Ruth PLESSIS
Mildred “Millie” Ruth PLESSIS
It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Mildred (“Millie”) Ruth Plessis on July 15, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family.
Millie was born on October 5, 1944, in Kenora, Ontario, to Margaret and Albert (“Bill”) Griffiths. She was the second oldest of five children.
Millie attended school in Winnipeg and earned her hairdressing licence during her younger years. She quickly became a popular hairstylist at a well-known salon in Kenora, where she enjoyed meeting people and making lasting friendships.
In 1962, Millie met the love of her life, Edmond (“Ed”) Plessis. Ed was the lead guitarist in a local band, and Millie was a regular attendee at his performances. Once they met, it was true love. They were soon married and began building a wonderful life together that would span 63 years. They welcomed their first son, Maurice, followed by Ron, Yvette, and Marc.
The family eventually made their way to Western Canada, settling in the Elk Valley for the next 60 years. Millie began her career at Sparwood Hospital, where she built lifelong friendships and dedicated 35 years of service. She took immense pride in her work, and her commitment to excellence was recognized when Sparwood Hospital was named one of Maclean’s Magazine’s Top 10 Cleanest Hospitals in Canada.
Millie was known for cooking the best family dinners, especially her cherished Christmas turkey suppers. She loved preparing delicious baking trays for the entire family, and her home was always beautifully decorated for every holiday. Everyone was welcomed with warmth, kindness, and a meal. She also volunteered for several years with the Sparwood Food Bank and the Catholic Women’s League at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Sparwood.
Above all else, Millie was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. She was known for her kindness, strong work ethic, quiet strength, and unwavering love for her family. She found joy in caring for those around her and created a home filled with warmth, laughter, and love.
Millie was predeceased by her beloved son, Maurice; her brother, Raymond (“Butch”) Griffiths; and her parents, Margaret and Albert (“Bill”) Griffiths.
She is lovingly remembered by her devoted husband, Ed Plessis; her children, Ron (Diana), Yvette, and Marc (Christa); her daughter-in-law, Tara ; her siblings, Joan Borbely (Gibby), Jean Jones (Dale), and Wilma Wiens (Joe); and her cherished grandchildren, Jesse, Nicole, Kayla (Darrell), Logan (Miranda), Sheldon, and Joe, along with many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.
The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the compassionate staff at Rocky Mountain Village and Fernie Hospital for the exceptional care they provided to Millie during her final days. They also extend their sincere thanks to everyone who offered their love, support, prayers, and kindness during this difficult time.
Though our hearts are broken, we find comfort in knowing that Millie’s love, generosity, and beautiful spirit will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
