Obituary of Noreen Rose Doll

Noreen Rose Doll

1933 – 2020

Noreen Doll chose her last sunrise on December 16, 2020, passing peacefully in the loving comfort of her family, at the age of 87 after a painful but courageous battle with several types of cancer.

She was born in Nelson, B.C., on September 25, 1933 to Ed & Ann Hedley. Later the family moved to Rossland, then on to Cranbrook where her dad became a Government Agent. Growing up in Cranbrook was special to her, she loved the area, wildlife, and dear friends she met along her journey. Noreen was a proud member of the Cranbrook Girls Bugle Band for many years. She had an ear for music and was incredibly talented at playing piano. Noreen could listen to a song, and suddenly it was like magic from her ears to her fingers, she would just start playing the song beautifully. Later it became a tradition at Christmas, playing the carols that the family would gather around and sing along.

Noreen married her best friend Vern, and they had 7 wonderful children. Many treasured times were spent out at the Doll cabin at North Star Lake. The family has made so many forever memories there and those will be cherished. Noreen always carried herself with grace and dignity, took special care of her appearance, so much so that she dedicated herself for 50 years at Anna’s Gym with her dear friends Bernice and Zella. They would go 3 days a week and include a good visit of course! Noreen was known for her quick wit, humour, and most loving kind ways. She would always have a smile on her face, and her close friends and family were her number one priority. One of her favorite things was looking out her window, and watching the deer come for a drink, or the squirrels eating food she would leave for them. At one time she counted over 150 elk running through the property. She will be missed greatly, and the memories she has left our family will be cherished forever. We love you.

She is survived by her 7 children, Dianne Pinchak, Linda Atwood (Shaun Payne), Dale (Jay), Mel, Daryl (Sheri), Rick, Tracey Paarup (Jamey), 19 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren, her dear sister Lois Dooling (Tom), and many nieces and nephews.

Noreen was predeceased by her husband Vern Doll in 2010, her parents Ann & Ed Hedley, her sister Jean Smith (Keiver), her brother Ed Hedley, her nephew Jim Dooling, and her favourite child – her beloved little furry pal “Bear”.

Due to Covid -19 restrictions, a Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
