Obituary of Norman Ray Pickering

Norman Ray Pickering

November 3, 2025 Norman Ray Pickering ( AKA Cowboy-Pick), passed away peacefully at the Cranbrook Hospital.

Norm was born November 10, 1950. He grew up with his Nine Brothers and Sisters on their family farm in Vauxhall Alberta. When he could escape from the Farm Duties, he enjoyed training and riding horses, playing ice hockey on the frozen pond and being a “ Cowboy.”

After leaving the Family Farm, He moved to BC where he spent most of his Adult years working for local Logging and Sawmill Companies around the Golden area. He raised 3 children, Tana, Justin and Shelby. He was able to immerse them in his passion for the outdoors. Going camping, skiing, fishing and hunting or simply going for firewood.

Norm and his very close “ Cowboy” friends spent a lot of time with the local Team Roping Clubs, traveling to different weekend get-togethers and Rodeo events. He would never back down from a challenge. Whether it was a Bull or a Bare Back Horse.

After retirement, he hung up his saddle to pursue his love of fishing. Sold everything and moved to 100 Mile House to live close to the many fishing lakes.

Norman is survived by his children, Tana (Aaron), Shelby (James) and Justin (Deanna). Grandchildren Jenna, Lily, Olivia and Wyatt. Siblings, Howard, Harry, Gary, Dean, Glen, Elsie, Laura( Lorne), Maxine and Mable. Many and Many Nieces and Nephews.

He was predeceased by his parents Henry and Violet Pickering, Brother In-laws Art Friesen, Gary McKinnon and Leo Harrold.

Norman will be remembered for standing on his front porch in his morning underwear saying “ Get em up outta there.” to all that drove by. Boasting that he is a Cowboy and not a Hippie. Always doing things his way!

And of course “Cowboy Pick “
