Obituary of Patricia Elizabeth Bodin

Patricia Elizabeth Bodin

September 4, 1922 – October 13, 2020

October 13th, 2020 at the spirited age of 98, Patricia “Patty/Pat” Bodin (nee Nesbitt) of Kimberley and Wasa gracefully and peacefully left this great earth with the love and support of her girls.

Patty was born in Coalhurst, Alberta on Sept 4th,1922 and came to Kimberley with her family in 1924 to live in Happy Valley. Patty was involved in music and sports all her life and had a true passion for basketball in her youth, then badminton, skiing, and walking. Walking the townsite, and the trails to Marysville and Wasa, as well as participating in the Terry Fox Walk for 30 consecutive years, starting in 1980, kept her in great shape.

Patty worked at the Post Office, then had a lovely career with Fabro’s as office manager/bookkeeper. Her spare time was spent knitting for all family, Food Bank, Church Bazaars and Hospital Auxiliary. Her other hobbies included sewing, hand work, reading and crosswords and of course baking. Her baking was so good and there was so much; shortbread, pies, and cookies for all!

Patty was an active member of the community, canvassing for United Way, taking census, doing enumeration for the voters list, acting as both polling captain and returning officer many times. There were years as the treasurer for Girl Guides and as a CGIT leader. She was also an active member of the United Church.

In 1989 she ‘walked’ from Kimberley to her home in Wasa and never looked back. There she enjoyed her beautiful lake and mountains, gardening, and daily walks around the lake. Wasa was her peaceful place. Patty’s greatest joy came from the pride she had for family as “they are all caring, kind and I am lucky to have them all in my life.”

Patty is survived by daughter Sandy (Laurie) Kay, Nedra (Al) Post, Romi (Lisa) and Eric Bodin, her loving grandchildren Jeffrey (Kelly) Kay, Dallon (Aida) Kay, Kyle (Karine) Kay, Jared (Tyler) Sheridan, McKenna Post and great grandchildren Jessica, Jorgia, Cameron, Sequoia, Acacia, Dennis and Daniel.  Patty also leaves behind special nieces and nephews Carrie, Penny, Arnie, Sue, Bob, Murray, Allan, Brad, Sherry, Gary, and their amazing families. She will also be missed by many special friends; among them Helen and Mary.

Patty was predeceased by her mother Gertie in 1965, father Ernie in 1979, brothers Chris 1985, Don 2003, and sisters Dorothy in 1999, Barbara in 2003 and nephew Kip 2016.

Our matriarch is gone but her spirit lives in all of us – may we continue to be kind, caring and understanding as we carry her torch. Patty is with us always and will be remembered at each beautiful sunrise, sunset, glimmering moon, and on each path and trail along our way.

Thank you to Dr Nishi, the super care teams at Garden View, Kootenay Street Village and Interior Health Home Care who made the trips to Wasa. The love and caring you wrapped her in is appreciated and long lasting. We want you to know you make a difference!

Celebration of life to follow in a time without COVID and ashes to rest at the Wasa Memorial Garden.

In lieu of flowers those wishing to remember Mom may do so with a donation to the Terry Fox Foundation online or 201-2571 Shaughnessy St, Port Coquitlam, BC V3C 3G3
