Obituary of Patricia Mary Leahy

Patricia Mary Leahy

1924 – 2022

Patricia “Pixie” Leahy, passed away Wednesday, June 1st, 2022 at East Kootenay Regional Hospital.  She was born August 23rd, 1924 in Kilkee, County Clare, Ireland. Mother had three sisters Sylvia, Hilda, Doris, and a brother Bobby Kerr.

Pixie loved people; there is an Irish tradition called “Failte” (translated as welcome) which she practiced all of her life. Mom truly enjoyed visitors, often serving them tea and baked treats while they told her about their lives and families. Mom had a fantastic memory and always remembered everyone’s birthday and special occasions. Mom was trained as a nurse in Ireland and immigrated to England where she worked for many years as a nurse and later as a nanny. She absolutely loved babies and children. Many of the neighbors’ children would come for visits and Mom would feed them ice cream, treats, and listen to their stories. Her kitchen was a safe haven to all and all were welcome.

Mom donated her time to various charities for over 30 years. Through her charity work she established long term friendships. Mom enjoyed her family, friends, and home for many years.

She is survived by her daughter Margaret (Michael) Vann, son Thomas J. Leahy, grandsons Michael Leahy and James Leahy, great grandson Lochlainn Leahy, her sister Doris, and family in Ireland.

Patricia was predeceased by her husband Michael Rory Leahy in 2014. As Mom was friends with Dad’s sisters they knew each other from childhood. Dad had immigrated to Canada and on one of his trips back home to Ireland, he met Mom and they married in 1965. They enjoyed forty nine years of marriage.

A Memorial Mass will be held at 10:00am Saturday June 18th at Christ The Servant Parish, Cranbrook British Columbia.

In lieu of flowers, please donate to a charity of your choice.
