Obituary of Wolfgang Frank Kunkat

Wolfgang Frank KUNKAT

January 10, 1957 ~ July 9, 2021 (age 64)

It is with great sadness we announce the passing of our beloved father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend, Wolfgang Frank Kunkat. Wolf died at the age of 64 in his home in Fernie, British Columbia.

Wolfgang is survived by his children: Holly Theresa McMaster (Claire), Tanya Jean Feller, Cara Christine Piotrowski (Shawn Nelson), and Travis Wade Cannan; his grandchildren: Connor, Kylie, Jordan, Dylan, Bradi-Anne, Noah, Taya, Owen, Marilyn, and Carrie; his sister Karen Mosley, and his niece Breanna Simoneau. He was predeceased by his parents Bruno & Olga Kunkat, his brother-in-law Tim Mosley, and his niece Nadine Mosley.

Wolfgang was born on January 10th, 1957 in Fernie, BC to Bruno & Olga Kunkat. They lived in Fernie for some time before moving to Calgary and Edmonton, until returning to Fernie where he resided for the rest of his days. This is where Wolf later met and went on to marry and divorce the mother of his four children, Lori Kunkat. Much later in life he met and spent his last days with his partner, Della Bray.

Wolfgang made a life-long career as a shovel operator for Line Creek Mine, retiring from there at the age of 53. Wolf lived a very full and colorful life. In his younger years he was quite active; he loved to hike, bike, ski, canoe, and fish. He had a black belt in karate, was a volunteer ski patrolman at the Fernie Ski Hill, and was a yearly participant in the Peddle, Paddle, Powder Race.

Wolfgang leaves behind many loved ones and friends. Undoubtedly, any person he met throughout his life will have a vivid story to tell – but his children will always have the best of him, and he would happily tell you the same. His children were his greatest pride. Wolf was truly one of a kind and will be missed by many.

At the personal request of Wolfgang, there will not be a funeral service. He will be cremated, and his ashes laid to rest in St. Margaret’s Cemetery in Fernie.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Wolf’s memory to the Kidney Foundation of Canada. Thank You.
